"The combination of COVID-19 and plant closures during the ten year period were real challenges for us," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "Between the Unilever and UTEC closures, nearly 902 jobs were lost; fortunately, however, through 130 expansion and attraction projects in the local industrial sector 2,146 new jobs were created, resulting in a net positive impact of 1,226 new jobs during that same time period," he added. "Huntington County is part of a thriving Region and we have tremendous local success stories. The Census data is not cause for alarm, but none of us like to be on the short end of the scoreboard. There's always more to be done and we have an excellent team working hard everyday to help enhance the vibrancy of our Community," he concluded. Click here for local census data.
