April unemployment rate improves

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has released its April 2014 Unemployment Report. The rate for Huntington County is reported at 4.9%, down from 7.7% one year ago and down from the peak of 14.3% in June 2009.

 

The report reflects pre-2008 statistics or rather sets a new benchmark moving forward. There were 943 Huntington County residents reported as unemployed in April 2014, compared with 2,977 in June 2009.

 

"Clearly, the employers who promised to create jobs have done an excellent job delivering on their promises," said Mark Wickersham, executive director, Huntington County Economic Development.
