Continental Structural Plastics commissions expansion

Today, Huntington County Economic Development client Continental Structural Plastics, Inc. (CSP) officially commissioned its expansion associated with the production of exterior body panels for the legendary Chevy Corvette Stingray.

Plans for the project were originally announced in November 2012
and involved a total investment of $6.9 million. CSP anticipates the creation of as many as 149 net new jobs by 2015.

CSP hopes to grow to a local workforce of more than 400 as a result of projects related to the announcement and anticipates filling 75 new positions within the next couple of months..  The Indiana Economic Development Corporation and the City of Huntington offered incentives associated with aspects of the comprehensive efforts, which also support production of other iconic vehicles.

“It’s so exciting to know that when anyone looks at the legendary Chevy Corvette Stingray and says, ‘Wow!  Does that look awesome?!’ the parts creating that emotional response were made in Huntington, Indiana,” said Mark Wickersham, executive director, Huntington County Economic Development.

“Corvette buyers and collectors are very detailed oriented and uncompromising on quality. CSP is the best in the business at producing perfect parts. It says a lot about Huntington County and the regional workforce that we can produce this level of quality parts.”

The City of Huntington is proud of its automotive heritage and bullish about the future of the automotive industry—especially that of CSP.

Wickersham concluded by saying, “Less than four years ago, this building was empty. No jobs. No tax base. No activity. Now, it’s home to a world-class, Tier-I automotive manufacturer, building the parts that visibly define some of the finest vehicles in the history of the U.S. auto industry. We couldn’t be more proud of CSP and excited about this opportunity.”

The Huntington plant for CSP also produces parts for the Lincoln MKS, Ford Raptor Pick-up, Chevy Volt, and the Fisker Karma.
