1600 County Residents Return to Work June 23, 2020 Report The Indiana Department of Workforce Development in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released the May Unemployment Report. The rate reported for Huntington County was 13.6% down from 20% in April. This compares to 3.3% prior to the Governor's Executive Orders in response to COVID-19. "Over 1,600 Huntington County residents returned to work during the second month of the extraordinary circumstances of COVID-19," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "My hope is the situation will continue to show improvement over the next two reporting cycles subject to any additional actions in response to the virus. The extremely high unemployment numbers should be temporary," he added. "It will be particularly interesting to see the full impact of the automotive industry returning to full operations when the June reporting period data is released."
