Expansion of Huntington Municipal Airport Nears Completion

 
Members of the Board of Aviation Commissioners were recently joined by Mayor Brooks Fetters and other leaders to break ground for phase two of the $1.6 million aviation ramp expansion at Huntington Municipal AirportE & B Paving Company is doing the construction project. 
 
Funding for the project was primarily provided by the United States Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  The FAA granted 90% of the project cost, with the Indiana Department of Transportation providing an additional 5% with the Huntington Municipal Airport Board of Aviation Commissioners (BOAC) providing 5% of the funding as well.
 
"This project could not have been done without the help of Congressman Jim Banks and our U.S. Senators, Joe Donnelly and Todd Young," said Mark Wickersham, member of the BOAC and executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation.  Chris Crabtree, Senior Advisor to Congressman Banks attended the ceremony.  "State Representative Dan Leonard, a pilot and tenant at the airport, and State Senator Andy Zay were tremendous assets to the effort as well," he added.
 
Huntington Municipal Airport is owned by the City of Huntington and was established in the late 1940s. Nearly 85 aircraft call the facility home and the airport serves as a genuine asset to the economic development prospects of Huntington.
