January Unemployment Report Released March 16, 2021 Report The Indiana Department of Workforce Development in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the January 2021 Unemployment Report. The data, covering the period from December 11, 2020 through January 10, 2021, indicates the unemployment rate for Huntington County was 3.6% at the time. This compares to 3.3% for the previous reporting period and 3.5% one year ago. The January reporting period includes holiday seasonal changes in the retail sector, both the "ramp-up" for Christmas and the January release of seasonal retail employees. "Given the impact COVID-19 had on in-store retail shopping and restaurants, the report is very encouraging," said Mark Wickersham, executive director for the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "Many of our local industries have job openings at this time, so the demand for talent is strong," Wickersham added. "Huntington County is very fortunate to be home to a strong industrial community," he concluded. The job posting site Indeed.com lists 420 immediate openings within ten miles of Huntington.
