July Unemployment Below State Average August 23, 2022 Report The Indiana Department of Workforce Development in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the July Unemployment Report. The rate among Huntington County residents was reported at 3%. The rate in Huntington County, while up slightly from June's 2.7%, is below the State-wide rate of 3.5% and is better than 55 of Indiana's 92 Counties. "There are a number of media stories about inflation in the economy, trends in federal spending, and stock market swings, which can impact the jobs market. While these are not to be ignored, the macro-economy in my view is still making adjustments after the pandemic," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "The automotive industry continues to adjust to disruptions in production schedules caused by chip manufacturers and the initial efforts on the part of the industry to meet the market demands for electric vehicles," he said "Continued labor shortages complicate production schedules while at the same time experiencing routine changes in production throughout the manufacturing sector for scheduled maintenance, tooling and inventory," Wickersham added. "All things considered, the jobs report is very strong and speaks volumes about the quality of our employers and workforce," he concluded. According to the job posting website Indeed.com, 571 job openings are listed within 10 miles of downtown Huntington. Click here to read the July Unemployment Report.
