July Unemployment Report August 22, 2023 Report The Indiana Department of Workforce Development, in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, has released the July Unemployment Report. According to their report, the unemployment rate in July for Huntington County residents stood at 3.4%, up 0.1% from June. The report covers the period from June 11 through July 10 and the data is based on the County of residence for the worker, not the location of the employer. According to job posting site Indeed.com, 490 job openings were available within 10 miles of downtown Huntington at the time of publication. "This year to date, the 7 month average unemployment rate is 3.13% in Huntington County and consistently lower than the rate for the entire State," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "Also, the average number of people unemployed is 575," he added. "The July numbers, while statistically higher than the 7 month average, still out perform even pre-COVID results (the data from January 2019 reflected a 4.4% unemployment rate with over 750 people unemployed) and are reflective of a very strong job market for job seekers living in Huntington County," Wickersham concluded.
