June 2013 unemployment report released
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has released its June unemployment report, and the unemployment rate for Huntington County stands at 8.5%.
The rate for Huntington County continues below the statewide average of 8.7%. The county also ranks as the 48th lowest rate of the 92 Indiana counties.
"Seasonal adjustments to the statistics combined with temporary layoffs associated with routine business cycle decisions played a role in the increase in Huntington County," said Mark Wickersham, executive director, Huntington County Economic Development.
"I've also been told by several employers that additional hiring was delayed during this reporting period as employers were evaluating the potential effect of the implementation of Obamacare," he added. "Now that Congress and the Obama administration have announced delays in implementation, I'm hopeful the employment picture will remain stable."
