June Unemployment Rate Drops July 29, 2020 Report The Indiana Department of Workforce Development in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the June Unemployment Report. The data covers the period May 11 through June 10, 2020. The rate reported for Huntington County was 10.1%. The pre-COVID unemployment rate in Huntington County was 3.3% and the rate temporarily spiked to 20% in April as Indiana's Governor issued executive orders requiring non-essential businesses to close and non-essential workers to either work "remotely" or in thousands of cases, were temporarily laid-off by employers. The monthly statistics for May improved, with the unemployment rate in Huntington County reported at 13.6% at that time. "The unemployment report suggests that by June 10 we were 50% through the jobs recovery process compared to pre-COVID dynamics," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "There's still a long way to go but we've made a lot of progress recovering from the most dramatic economic and public health crisis we've ever experienced," he added. According to job posting site Indeed.com, 216 jobs were listed as immediately available within 10 miles of downtown Huntington. Click here to read the report.
