June 20, 2017
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the May 2017 Unemployment Report. The data covers the period from April 11, 2017 through May 10, 2017 and is based upon the County of residence of the worker..
The rate for Huntington County was reported at 2.5%. This compares to 2.4% in April and 3.8% one year ago.
"Over the last 10 years, it's not been unusual to see the rate in May increase from that of April due to seasonal adjustments to the statistics to reflect the summer job market," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "According to
Career Builder.com, there are 806 job openings available in all types of employment opportunities, within 30 miles of downtown Huntington. Most major employers in the Northeast Indiana Region, including Huntington, have unfilled jobs and are looking for talent," noted Wickersham.
