May Unemployment Rate Improves
June 24, 2019
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development, in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, released the unemployment data for May 2019. The rate for Huntington County was reported at 2.9%.
Huntington County's rate was the highest in the Northeast Indiana Region, however, all eleven counties had rates below 3% ranging from Huntington County's 2.9% to Wells and Adams County's 2.3%. Huntington County was the same as the State-wide rate and ranked 40th of the 92 Counties.
The Huntington County rate is down from 3.3% one year ago and 3% in April.
"Our local residents are always pleased to see the unemployment rate drop," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "I also watch the reports from various websites which post job openings. The number of available jobs is vital to understanding the overall strength of our employment opportunities," he said. "Job posting website
Indeed.com currently shows 184 job openings within 10 miles of downtown Huntington," Wickersham added.
