October unemployment rate at lowest since 2008
The unemployment rate for Huntington County, Indiana, residents stands at 7.3%, according to the report released today by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The rate is down 1.1% from a month ago and is at the lowest rate since October 2008 when it stood at 6.7%.
According to the report, the total labor force has grown, the number of people working has increased and the number unemployed has declined. The report also confirms the impact the temporary shut-down of GM’s Fort Wayne Assembly Plant had on the prior month.
The 2012 unemployment rate among Huntington County residents has ranged from a high of 9.1% to the current 7.3%.
"My hope is that we're truly beginning to see the benefits of a lot of hard work by employers and the economic development community," said Mark Wickersham, executive director, Huntington County Economic Development. "The report, just two days before the Thanksgiving holiday, is wonderful news. Sustainability is always a concern, but today’s report is very encouraging news."
