September Unemployment Rate Drops for 3rd Consecutive Month in Huntington County
The September Unemployment Report released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development reflects the third month in a row with a decline in the unemployment rate in Huntington County. The Septmber rate for Huntington County stands at 11.1%, the lowest the rate has been since January of 2009 at 11.0%.
Huntington County's unemployment rate peaked at 14.3% in June of 2009 and has been on the decline each month since. Some of the economic activity impacting the County's rate includes but is not limited to:
*New hires at Onward Manufacturing.
*Call backs at several area manufacturers.
*Call backs at the GM facilities in Fort Wayne and Marion.
*Supply chain call backs associated with GM.
*Layoffs at StrideRite.
*Growth at Saturn Wheel.
*Growth at Heartland Aluminum.
*New hires in the retail/restaurant sectors.
