Unemployment Rate Drops for 3rd Consecutive Month August 24, 2020 Report The Indiana Department of Workforce Development in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, has released the Unemployment Report for July 2020. The unemployment rate for Huntington County residents was reported at 6.3% and reflects the third consecutive month of significant improvement. The pre-COVID unemployment rate was 3.3% for Huntington County. The rate temporarily jumped to 20% during the Governor's 1st "stay at home" executive order for April. The May rate dropped to 13.6%, followed by a drop to 10.1% in June. "We still have a long way to go to return to the economic strength pre-COVID, however, after three consecutive months of strong recovery, we're well on our way back," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "It's also very encouraging that our local unemployment rate continues below the State-wide rate," he added.
