Unemployment Rate Drops in February

Huntington, Indiana--

 

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has released the unemployment report for February 2012.  According to the State, the February Unemployment Rate in Huntington County was 8.8%, dropping from 9.1% in January.  Fifty-five Indiana Counties had rates higher than Huntington County's.  The statistics also indicate 183 more Huntington County residents were employed in February compared with January.

 

"The report confirms the general impression we have that our employment situation is stabilizing," said Mark Wickersham, Executive Director of Huntington County Economic Development.  He cautioned, "My concern is that as gasoline prices rise, so will unemployment.  The situation is better and recovering, but still fragile.  Ultimately the numbers are a reflection of the strength of our Regional economy."
