Huntington, Indiana --  The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has released the unemployment report for April of 2011, covering the reporting period from March 11, 10211 - April 10, 2011.  The unemployment rate for Huntington County now stands at 8.4% the third consecutive month of improvement.  The rate stood at 11.4% in January and peaked at 14.3% in June of 2009.

"The improvement is beginning to confirm that a collaborative economic development effort is important, but the real heros are the employers themselves who are risking capital and creating payroll," said Mark Wickersham, Executive Director of Huntington County Economic Development.

Recent job creation announcements in Huntington include, Continental Structural Plastics, Helena Chemical, Perfection Wheel, and Huntington Aluminum.  Over the last four years, twenty-six different economic development projects have been announced in Huntington County, accounting for commitments to create nearly 1,100 jobs and venture over $99 million in new capital investments.

"The process of economic development is a never ending process and while we will never have a one-to-one ratio of local jobs for every local resident, Huntington County Economic Development Corporation will continue to work hard to help make our County an even better place to live and work," Wickersham concluded.
